Androgen Receptors

These receptors are activated by androgens such as testosterone.  Testosterone that is not bound to SHBG in the blood stream attaches to these receptors and flips them on like light switches, this is what gives you the androgenic affect.  You can have tons of testosterone in your bloodstream, if it is not free to attach to the androgen receptors it does nothing for you.  Only 2% of the testosterone in your blood stream is free.
